Francis L. Newman | Francis L. "Frank" Newman was born in 1923 to Albert H. and Marie Alberta Mercur Haley Newman and was raised in West Chester Pennsylvania. He enlisted in the US Army in WWII and served as a Tech Sgt. in Europe and Asia, notably in Salerno Italy, Normandy France, and Okinawa, Japan. As a frogman on the Underwater Demolition Team, he helped clear the beaches in advance of the Normandy invasion on D-Day, June 6, 1944. He was awarded three Bronze Stars. After the war, he became a dedicated educator in local school districts for 39 years. He served as an adjunct professor at Trenton State College and Rutgers University and was named Princeton University Teacher of the Year. He was elected President of the NJ Science Teacher Association. He lived on West Avenue in Delanco and was active in Corpus Christi Parish in Willingboro.
